Grafton Group plc has downscaled its operations in Ireland as the nation imposes stricter restrictive measures to slow the spread of coronavirus.
The distributor of building materials and DIY retailing Group will temporarily close the Woodie's DIY, Home and Garden business. Grafton will also significantly reduce the operations of its distribution model. From now it will only supply materials to essential health projects, critical road and utility infrastructure and emergency supplies to businesses and homes, in line with the new pubic health guidelines.
Grafton said: "Our primary concern at this time is the health and wellbeing of our colleagues, customers, business partners and the communities where we operate, and we will continue to monitor and respond as appropriate to the advice of Governments and health authorities in each of our markets."
The Irish Government said non-essential businesses should close for a two week period with effect from midnight on Friday 27 March 2020.
