Rail industry suppliers and service providers had good news this week when East Riding of Yorkshire Council approved Siemens Mobility's proposed rail manufacturing facility.
This latest positive update for the big project (via local paper Hull Live), has helped cement the future of the 104-acre site in Goole, close to junction 36 of the M62. The plans include 80,000 m² of manufacturing, commissioning, warehousing buildings and stabling sidings, as well as four storey 5,000 m² offices.
1,700 supply chain jobs will be created
Around 700 jobs will be created - and a further 250 during the construction period. A further 1,700 potential supply chain roles will be created, according to Siemens.
Last year, Siemens signed a £1.5 billion contract with London Underground, part of Transport for London, for the design and production of a new generation of trains for the Piccadilly line. Siemens Mobility has also submitted a bid to supply and maintain 54 trains (pictured) for phase one of High Speed Two (HS2).
Siemens already has a £310 million turbine blade factory in Hull, approximately 20 miles from the new Goole site.
Last year, Reyher received a prestigious Supplier Award for 'Best Product Availability' from Siemens.
