A Sheraton hotel in Bahrain has undergone renovation with fischer BWM façade systems.
The project comprises the entire estate, including guest rooms, conference and meeting rooms, leisure facilities and public areas and a multi-storey car park.
A fischer BWM subframe system securely anchored Equitone fibre cement panels to the façade, covering a total surface area of 2,500 m². The modern building envelope was additionally clad with aluminium composite panels (ACM), which comprise two aluminium layers with a polyethylene core. fischer BWM’s ATK 100 + 103 aluminium supporting structures were used to fasten the Equitone elements.
In addition, fischer’s SXRL frame fixings were used to anchor the FLH AL L-shaped aluminium wall brackets of the vertical support system to concrete and hollow block substrates. Serving as fixed and sliding points, the fixings distribute wind loads evenly and support the full dead load of the façade panels and subframe. While the fixed points bear structural loads, the sliding points allow for thermal expansion of the profiles.
One of the project’s challenges was the client, Dadabhai Construction, who asked for a concealed fastening free of expansion pressure for the Equitone panels with a thickness of 8mm.
“We offered the ideal solution with our Tergo+ private label product made exclusively for thin fibre cement panels by Equitone,” said Musab Hamdan, Country Manager Bahrain at the fischer subsidiary in the UAE.
The thin Equitone panels also posed challenges to fischer.
“We have ended up with only one reliable solution using fischer Tergo + and ATK system, which helped us to comply with all projects requirements in terms of façade fixing and giving the finish that the client was looking for,” said Jan Zimmermann, Head of Market Management at fischer façade systems.
“Our fischer FZP II T Tergo+ Zykon panel anchors provided the façade with a harmonious appearance by offering a distinguished look thanks to concealed fastenings of the Equitone panels while offering a high level of safety,” Zimmermann added.
Additionally, fischer’s mobile BWM BSN 101T drilling equipment enabled precise, fast, and efficient on-site drilling of undercut holes in the fibre cement panels. Using the dry drilling method with the fischer BWM FZPB 11T D12 drill bit, the process was both accurate and convenient.
