Bufab highlights sustainability achievements in latest report

Bufab has released its 2024 Sustainability Report, highlighting progress in reducing its carbon footprint across Scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions.

The company has achieved a 25% reduction in total emissions since the base year 2021. Thanks to the transition to electric and hybrid vehicles, investments in solar systems, and the adoption of green certificates, Scope 1 and 2 emissions have decreased by 22% compared to 2021. Every Bufab company has a structured plan to achieve net-zero internal emissions by 2030.

In Scope 3, the company is seeing positive momentum within its supply chain, driven by its Sustainable Supplier Engagement Program (SSEP).

Currently, 47% of Bufab’s total purchase volume comes from suppliers committed to reducing their emissions. The SSEP supports suppliers with training, guidance and tools to implement carbon reduction strategies, prioritising sustainability initiatives that deliver the greatest impact across the shared supply chain.

Additionally, Bufab has made strides in resource conservation. Following the sale of Bufab Lann and Hallborn, wastewater usage has declined, and the company continues to monitor water consumption across its remaining trading operations, where usage remains minimal. Waste management and recycling efforts also play a key role in Bufab’s circular business model.

The company takes a risk-based approach to managing environmental, social and governance (ESG) risks, both internally and throughout its supply chain. As part of SSEP, Bufab actively encourages its suppliers to focus on ESG goals where they can make the most meaningful contributions and align with the UN’s 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)—a fundamental requirement for doing business with Bufab.

Looking ahead, Bufab has set an ambitious target to cut its carbon footprint by 55% by 2031. As an intermediate milestone, it aims to have 70% of its purchases and suppliers contributing to emission reductions in line with its climate goals. Currently, 47% of Bufab’s suppliers have already committed to reducing their emissions at the same pace as the company.
