Select Product's BladeFixer has been shortlisted for an Innovation Award from Travis Perkins Group.
The plasterboard fixing is pitched as the world's first to hold a whopping 245kg (38 stone) in shear tests and 85kg (13 stone) tension tests (on 15mm board), independently tested and varified by the Building Research Establishment.
According to the brand, BladeFixer is also the only fixing on the market that offers a larger fixing surface - which can be snapped off or trimmed to the user's desired size - and hold multiple screws allowing for final fitting adjustments. The fixings are capable of fixing heavy items like wall cabinets and even boilers and large radiators to all types of plasterboard walls.
No special tools or skills are required to fit BladeFixer - just a small knife to make a slot in the plasterboard and a Phillips screwdriver or power drill. It's a four step process and they work with all types and thicknesses of plasterboard from 9.5mm to 15mm, double board, insualtion board and dot and dab and lath and plaster. Traditional lath and plaster wall and ceilings are compatible too.
BladeFixer was first cooked up by a plasterer turned inventor fed up with fiddly fixings. After a few design iterations and positive feedback from fellow tradespeople he arrived at the current format - it is patent pending and made in the UK with galvanised British steel by Select Products.
Select Products will have to wait until September to see if they win one of the awards.
