Ironclad wins gold at 2019 Edison awards

Hand safety specialist, Ironclad Performance Wear, has won Gold in the Tools of Tomorrow category of this year's Edison Awards for its Oil-Based Mud Glove, created in partnership with Vibram.

The Edison Awards honour excellence in new product and service development, marketing, human-centred design and innovation, with finalists chosen by a steering committee and group of industry experts.

Chosen finalists were then submitted to a panel of more than 3,000 senior business executives and academics who cast ballots for gold, silver and bronze winners.

The OBM Glove, specifically designed for the oil and gas industry, saw Ironclad and Vibram partner to integrate Vibram shoe sole technology in to the palm of an Ironclad glove, resulting in exceptional durability, grip and fluid channelling characteristics. The gloves can be used in a variety of applications such as oil and gas extrication, rebar construction and demolition.

Ironclad has announced next generation products based on this technology will focus on improvements in hand dexterity, finger tactility and grip in varied environments through the use of advanced polymers, unique grip patterns and new adhesion technologies.

Ironclad General Manager, Eric Jaeger, said: "It's about advancing technology. That's what we did with Vibram. That's why we won the award. The OBM was the first Vibram glove, but certainly not the last."

Torque's Peter Brett will be reviewing Ironclad's OBM Gloves in the upcoming print edition of Torque Magazine, out in June.
