TR’s Sven Brehler Takes a Leap for Charity

In a show of determination and family support, Sven Brehler, Director of Innovation and Engineering at TR, will abseil down the iconic Derby Cathedral to raise funds for Rainbows Hospice, a charity supporting terminally ill children. The inspiration for this daring feat comes from his 13-year-old daughter, who despite living with ME (Myalgic Encephalomyelitis), had a dream to conquer the cathedral’s 198 steps for charity.

Although his daughter’s condition prevents her from climbing the staircase herself, her spirit and desire to help others have been a driving force behind this event. In solidarity, Sven will not only climb to the top but will take the bold step of abseiling down the side of the cathedral on October 5 – all to support Rainbows Hospice’s vital work with children and families.

"My daughter was determined to help Rainbows Hospice, but climbing all those steps wasn’t an option for her due to her condition," said Sven. "So, I decided to step in and do it – and to avoid walking down those steps myself, I’ll be going over the edge! It’s a little scary, but it’s all for a great cause."

Rainbows Hospice in the East Midlands is dedicated to providing care and support to children with life-limiting conditions and helping their families who rely on Rainbows for essential medical care, therapy, and emotional support.
