Swiss Steel Group secures top rating in climate assessment

Swiss Steel Group has been awarded the “A” grade in the 2024 sustainability ratings by CDP, a global non-profit organisation that assesses corporate environmental performance.

This distinction places the company among an elite group—it is one of only four steel manufacturers worldwide to earn the top mark this year in the climate change category.

The upgrade to an “A” rating is a testament to Swiss Steel Group’s ambitious climate strategy and its commitment to transparent, science-backed emissions targets. A major contributor to this achievement was the validation of the company’s climate goals by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi).

In 2024, Swiss Steel Group became the first steelmaker globally to have its sector-specific decarbonisation targets approved by the SBTi. These goals were further updated and revalidated in early 2025, reinforcing the company’s leadership in climate action within the steel industry.

Swiss Steel Group’s rise through the CDP ranks—from a C rating in 2022 to B in 2023, and now to A—demonstrated its progress in sustainability reporting and climate risk management. Unlike metrics that focus solely on emissions levels, CDP’s rating evaluates the robustness of a company’s climate governance, emissions reduction efforts and overall transparency.

In addition to the 2024 sustainability ratings awarded by CDP, Swiss Steel Group also received a gold medal from the sustainability assessment platform EcoVadis earlier this year.
