Swiss Steel Group has received a gold medal from the sustainability assessment platform EcoVadis.
This recognition places Swiss Steel Group among the top 5% of all companies assessed by EcoVadis worldwide and within the top 2% of the iron and steel industry. It is the best result the company has achieved in this internationally recognised sustainability rating.
“This gold medal is not only a testament to our ongoing sustainability efforts but also a strong signal to our customers and the entire steel industry. Our goal is to actively drive the transition towards a sustainable future through environmentally friendly production processes and innovative materials,” said Frank Koch, CEO of Swiss Steel Group.
The award marks an improvement from last year’s silver medal and highlights the company’s consistent commitment to environmentally friendly production, social responsibility and ethical business practices.
As one of Europe’s leading special steel manufacturers, Swiss Steel Group follows a clear sustainability strategy. The company exclusively uses the electric arc furnace (EAF) route, which has a carbon footprint up to 81% lower than the conventional blast furnace method. The use of recycled steel scrap as a raw material and the increasing reliance on renewable energy sources contribute significantly to reducing emissions.
Additionally, through the development and supply of Green Steel, Swiss Steel Group offers a CO₂-reduced alternative for customers in the automotive, aviation, mechanical engineering and energy industries. These sustainably produced steels help reduce the ecological footprint across the entire value chain.
Looking ahead, Swiss Steel Group will conduct future sustainability assessments at Group level rather than evaluating individual sites separately. This approach allows for more targeted management of sustainability measures across all production facilities.
Finally, the company will further advance its circular economy initiatives and implement innovative technologies for environmentally friendly steel production.
