Elkem Silicones has won two categories at the SEAL Awards.
The company’s Industrial Symbiosis for Silicones value chain initiative won the Environmental Initiative Award, as it was recognisd for the recycling of hydrochloric acid (HCl) waste into valuable raw materials for specialty silicones.
This approach not only minimised waste and CO₂ emissions but also supported the company’s commitment to developing and scaling new technologies and processes that maximise the value of raw materials.
By implementing this closed-loop system, Elkem Silicones achieved a carbon footprint reduction of up to 6.5% in one of its product ranges, with the potential to reach up to 14% in the midterm.
Aside from this, Elkem Silicones won the Sustainable Product Award with SILCOLAPSE™ EASY 10, a product of an intensive R&D programme aimed at formulating an optimal solution for foam control in the plastic recycling sector.
This product tackles the crucial challenge of foam formation during the washing and wastewater treatment stages of recycling—key processes for minimising environmental impact and enhancing efficiency.
Industrial trials have demonstrated that SILCOLAPSE™ EASY 10 can reduce antifoam usage by up to 50%, resulting in lower CO₂ emissions and increased productivity.
“Receiving these two SEAL Awards is a testament to Elkem Silicones’ commitment to sustainability and innovation. These recognitions are particularly meaningful as they highlight our holistic approach to transforming our business model and investing in strategic projects that drive the circular economy in the silicones industry,” said Pierre Beccat, Research and Technology Director EMEA & Americas.
