B&Q to buy five UK Homebase stores

B&Q has reached an agreement to buy Homebase stores in the UK for £2.5 million.

After their conversion to the B&Q banner, the five UK stores, located in Altrincham, Basingstoke, Biggleswade, Leamington Spa and Worcester, will collectively offer over 25,000 square metres of retail space, providing more customers with access to B&Q’s and TradePoint’s range of home improvement products and services.

The offering includes Kingfisher’s exclusive brands and B&Q’s standout services, such as kitchen and bathroom design and installations, TradePoint counters, timber cutting and paint mixing. Customers can also access over 1.2 million products online at diy.com, along with click-and-collect, home delivery, and bulk delivery services available on diy.com and trade-point.co.uk.

It’s expected that the transaction will complete in the first quarter of Kingfisher FY 2025/26. The stores will start to be converted to the B&Q banner in Spring 2025, with all stores expected to be completed by the end of 2025.

“We’re determined to give home improvers the choice and convenience they deserve and to transform the home improvement stores in these locations to fulfil that need,” said Graham Bell, CEO of B&Q.

The acquisition followed an agreement to buy three Homebase stores in Letterkenny, Navan and Waterford in the Republic of Ireland with a total purchase price of about £3.2 million.
