The Home Depot has announced the opening of three new distribution centres in Georgia bringing approximately 1,000 new jobs to the Atlanta area. This comes after the company’s $1.2 billion expansion in 2017 with 150 new supply chain facilities.
"Retail has changed more in the past four years than in our company's 40-year history. Customers expect to shop whenever, wherever and however they want – whether they're buying a hammer or a pallet of pavers," said Senior Vice President of supply chain development and delivery, Stephanie Smith. "We're investing to meet the changing delivery needs of our DIY and Pro customers, whether they're at home, at their job sites or picking up in the store."
The new centres will open over the next 18 months to support the growing demands for flexible delivery and collection options for customers. The largest of the three centres is a 657,600 square-foot centre that will focus on replenishing stores in the Southeast. The Home Depot also plans to double to number of stores with on-site solar panels.
A new “flatbed delivery centre” is set to open in 2021 and will offer same and next day delivery of oversized orders. Earlier this year, the company opened its first flatbed delivery centre in Dallas to increase the accessibility and reliability of deliveries within the market.
The Home Depot also plans to open an order fulfilment operation in East Point late next year. This facility will focus on same and next day delivery options for popular products used by institutional business customers for maintenance and repairs.
Over the last five years, Home Depot has created more than 5,000 new jobs in Georgia through the opening new distribution centres and office locations.
The hiring process has begun for approximately 600 associate roles over the next few months. If you are interested, visit careers.homedepot.com to apply or text JOBS to 52270 for a link to local positions.
