This year's edition of wind power industry show HUSUM Wind is likely to be politically charged, taking place in election season.
HUSUM Wind runs 12-15 September and follows the elections in North Rhine-Westphalia and also the Schleswig-Holstein election. Most significant of all is the federal election in the weeks after HUSUM Wind, on 24 September.
The Schleswig-Holstein result was good news for the wind power industry - the elected coalition is a keen wind energy supporter and will promote communal wind energy projects as well as continuing to support offshore wind projects. The North Rhine-Westphalia coalition is planning more reliance on fossil fuels and setting a minimum distance of 1,500 metres to residential buildings, effectively reducing the space for wind turbines by 80%.
"In recent years, North Rhine-Westphalia has become the industrial heart of the wind industry," said says Peter Becker, Messe Husum & Congress MD. "Over 90 businesses and a large communal stand from this year's partner state are impressive proof of how tightly knit businesses in North Rhine-Westphalia are with wind energy."
Political debate is expected at the show, Becker added: "HUSUM Wind is an ideal platform for enabling such exchanges. This is where positions can be discussed, prejudices overcome and innovations spurred."
HUSUM Wind takes place every two years and will see over 650 exhibitors from the onshore and offshore wind industries exhibit there. WindEnergy Hamburg will take place at Hamburg Messe from 25-28 September 2018.
