Nord-Lock wins Red Dot Design Award for Superbolt Tool

Nord-Lock's Superbolt Tool has won the "Best Product Design 2020" Red Dot Award, in the Tools category.

The group scooped the prestigious design prize for the tool, which includes a compact drive mechanism that makes it possible to tighten multiple jackbolts simultaneously to the correct load. It is designed to allow a small torque input to be magnified into a large and uniformed torque output.

The Superbolt Tool is designed for Superbolt multi-jackbolt tensioners, a technology that was invented to solve the problem of applying high preload in large diameter bolts by dividing the torque into multiple jackbolts. The Superbolt Tool adds an extra layer of speed to this solution by tightening all the jackbolts simultaneously.

“I am extremely proud that the Superbolt Tool was judged not only good enough to be entered into the Red Dot competition, but it actually won”, says co-inventor Andy McPhee, R&D, Nord-Lock Group.

Fredrik Meuller, CEO Nord-Lock Group, added: “We are of course very proud and honored that our design has been recognized this way. It’s yet another proof of our dedication to develop technologies that are designed for the highest performance."

Some 6,500 products were submitted for this year's Red Dot Awards across the different categories. For more Red Dot Award winning product innovation, check our previous stories here.
