International Hardware Fair Cologne preview: Wiha, ESSVE & Prebena

In the first of our previews of the huge International Hardware Fair in Cologne, we look at some of the key tool and fastener exhibitors...

Wiha

Wiha has developed a new system for easier, faster and more intuitive bit selection. The bit range is now divided into just three categories and all bits are now suitable for normal screwdriving tasks and impact screwdrivers.

For screws with a 90-degree angle at the screw head, which tend to lie against the material, there are the new blue T bits. For screws with angles of more than 90 degrees, with a more countersunk shape, the yellow Y bits are ideal. If the user wants to fasten both types of screws, the red all-rounder TY bits are the right choice. The question as to whether they should be fastened manually or with impact screwdrivers is redundant with the new bits, says Wiha. UV coatings make selection even easier and lifespans have been extended. Get the full story at Hall 10.1, stands F001 and G002.

The busy boffins at Wiha have also produced a second generation of the XXL electrician’s case, the Electrician’s Competence. Contents have been optimised for electricians and there’s a new Wiha torch and dowel racket added as part of the relaunch. They sit alongside Wiha classics like the Tricut installation pliers, VDE screwdriver and torque solutions, and the Wiha slim family. The case trolley also includes upgraded and newer versions of Wiha favourites.

ESSVE

Swedish fastener firm ESSVE is launching its ESSBOX System globally at Cologne’s International Hardware Fair.

The ESSBOX System was launched five years ago in the Nordics where it has been a strong sales performer, with over 200,000 units of the green ESSBOX Case sold, boosting sales by 150% in Northern Europe. Today, 500 million ESSVE screws are sold every year, or 61 per second.

Now ESSVE is looking to make the Nordic success a global success story. The international launch takes place at the International Hardware Fair in hall 5.2 stand B030-C031 and will also see the debut of what the firm says is “the world’s best wooden screw”.

ESSVE’s wide range includes everything from traditional nails and screws to innovative solutions for heavy-duty fastening in wood, concrete and steel. Head to Hall 05.2, Stands B030 and C031 for more information.
