Black Country wire specialist hits record high

Alloy Wire International (AWI) has recorded its best year ever, in 72 years of business.

The West Midlands company secured sales of £11m over 2018, with uplifts in business across the aerospace, automotive, nuclear and oil and gas sectors. The rise represents a 28% improvement on 2017.

“All of our customers are very busy and they want a supplier that will get them their material quickly and to the highest possible standard," said MD Mark Venables. "Our lead times are the best in our industry, but it has been a challenge to keep them within the three weeks promise for the majority of the year. The only way we have achieved this is through our staff going above and beyond, not to mention a £3.8m investment.

“This has meant we have over 200 tonnes of stockholding at any given time and this features all of the 60 nickel alloys in our range. It has been a great year and we expect 2019 to follow a similar path.”

AWI plans to continue to develop a 'Super Fine Flat Wire' take up spooler, heat treatment furnaces and new drawing machines over the coming months.

According to Business Leader, that the good performance has continued into 2019, with January seeing over £1.2 million and orders shipped out to customers in 27 different countries.
