FTI and IFI present Basics of Fastener Testing webinar

The Fastener Training Institute (FTI) has teamed up with the Industrial Fasteners Insitute (IFI) for its latest webinar covering the basics of fastener training, to take place 30 June between 1-3 pm ET.

The two-hour training session will discuss how fastener testing is included in Consensus Standards, how to determine what tests to conduct and the sample size required for testing. The webinar will also teach the different hardness testing methods and why one may be better than another for specific testing criteria.

Attendees will also learn the fundamentals of axial tensile, wedge tensile and Proof load testing, as well as Shear Testing and the difference between a single and double shear test.

The basics of fatigue testing will also be covered, as will using a Charpy impact test to determine toughness. Additionally, the webinar will discuss the fundamentals of Hydrogen Embrittlement (stress durability) testing, testing for tapping screws and the basics of salt spray testing.

With almost 100 years of combined industry experience, the training will be presented by the IFI's technical staff. Laurence Claus and Dr Salim Brahimi will present the training alongside special guest Carmen Vertullo of AIM Testing Laboratory.

IFI members can attend the webinar for free, while non-members will be charged $49 per company, with no limit on attendees from any one company. Firms can register for the webinar here.

In light of the impact Covid-19 has had on the events calendar and physical meetings, it seems likely the fastener industry will see more business conducted online through video conferences, webinars and other digital means moving forwards, at least in the short term. With the majority of industry shows and events cancelled around the globe, digital means of communication will become increasingly important for decision-makers in all levels of the supply chain to keep abreast of the latest developments.
