Olympia mounts challenge to the pro tape market

Olympia Tools, distributor of hand tools and workwear under the Roughneck brand, has launched a new range of professional tape measures, Roughneck Tough Tapes.

The Torque-Expo Coventry 2018 exhibitor has incorporated a number of features into the durable, heavy-duty, chrome plated cased product, which includes a strong belt clip. A high-performance shock absorbing recoil mechanism as well as powerful blade brake have been incorporated. Based on Auto Brake™ technology, this securely locks the extended blade in place with no slippage, facilitating more accurate measuring.

The blades themselves have a large and magnetic double-ended hook which enables easier one-person use. The blades are also painted with lead-free paint as well as nylon coated for greater durability and complete rust protection.

In addition, to make the tape measures simpler to read, they are wider than normal at 27mm in width and feature Roughneck’s patented E-Z Read® graduation on the upper side of the blade.

This graduation offers both metric and imperial measurements and has every 1/8″ marked with a number. This saves users the time and effort of counting notches whilst simultaneously helping to reduce the margin for incorrect measuring.

On the reverse of the blade is a second graduation featuring metric and imperial measurements only.

The new Roughneck Tough Tapes are Class II and CE approved as well as available in three lengths – 10m (33ft), 8m (26ft) and 5m (16ft).

Vahe Der Kureghian, purchasing and marketing director at Olympia Tools, said: “We’re proud to have developed and launched the new Roughneck Tough Tapes because they reflect our commitment to offering innovative, high quality products under the Roughneck brand that meet the needs of the trade professional and DIY enthusiast in every area.

“Tape measures may be an everyday essential but this does not exclude them from our unrelenting focus on developing hand tools and work wear that add value to the user by making common trade tasks quicker, easier or more efficient.”
